ORIENT’S youth team have enjoyed a productive start to pre-season, defeating their Bristol Rovers and Dagenham & Redbridge counterparts in their latest friendlies.
Rovers were seen off 4-3 in an entertaining game at the O’s training ground, with second year scholar George Wickings netting twice.
Harrison Georgiou also got on the scoresheet, while a fine individual goal from Rob Nash set the seal on the under-18s’ victory.
That was followed with a 3-0 success over local rivals Dagenham on Monday.
Joe Foley opened the scoring, picking himself up to net from the penalty spot following a foul on him.
Josh Uzan finished for the second following good work by Kevin Kwartang, while Affy Obafemi scored a second penalty to complete the 3-0 victory.
The under-18s are back in action on Wednesday when they face a test at Ipswich Town.
Youth team boss Andy Edwards said: “It’s been a good pre-season so far. The fitness is improving and the work ethic and application has been very good, which we’ve also taken into the games we’ve had.
“We’ve had just one injury concern so far in first year Alex Finney, and we’ve got a strong squad so we have high expectactions for the season.
“We have Ipswich and Charlton next, so the tests will get tougher and we’ll be ready for the start of the season in a couple of weeks time.”
