RUSSELL SLADE has nominated Nathan Clarke as his new captain ahead of the start of the new season.

Defender Clarke takes over the armband following Matthew Spring’s summer departure from the squad.

The ex-Huddersfield man is one of eight new players in Slade’s ranks for the 2012/13 campaign and brings plenty of experience to the role, having played over 300 times for the Terriers.

The 29-year-old spent his entire career up until this summer at the Galpharm Stadium and is the second member of his family to play for the O’s, after his brother Tom enjoyed a loan spell in E10 last term.

Manager Russell Slade said: “Nathan is a natural leader and a natural pick for the role of captain.

“He is an experienced player and a great influence around the changing room.

“I’m delighted to have him as my captain – he has done the job before and I’m sure he will do it very well here too.”
