QPR XI 1 – 2 Leyton Orient

Pre-Season Friendly

DAVID MOONEY and Dean Cox were on the mark as the O’s defeated a Queens Park Rangers XI in a training ground friendly on Tuesday afternoon.

The O’s pair scored either side of the break to give the east Londoners victory, despite Mo Sharif’s free kick 19 minutes from time.

It provided a useful opportunity for Russell Slade’s new-look side to continue their knitting together process, and they did find more purpose to their attacking play in a first half littered with chances.

QPR keeper Aaron Lennox denied Kevin Lisbie with a strong save from a close range header by the O’s striker.

The opener came with 25 minutes on the clock when Mooney seized upon a loose touch from Lennox and was felled by the keeper as he tried to recover.

A penalty was awarded and Mooney made no mistake from 12 yards, beating Lennox’s dive with a confident strike to the top left of the goal.

Cox also drew a save before the interval, but he wasn’t to be denied two minutes after the restart when he broke clear, rounded Lennox and stroked home.

QPR named Jay Bothroyd, Tommy Smith and Rob Hulse in an otherwise inexperienced team and the O’s were making their knowhow count.

But 20 minutes from the end Anthony Griffith was penalised for a handball and Sharif placed a fine free kick right into the top right hand corner of Ryan Allsop’s net.

The same player struck another free kick just over the bar, but Orient held out to secure their third win of pre-season.

Orient: Allsop; James (McSweeney 61), Cuthbert, Clarke (Chorley 46), Sawyer (Odubajo 46); Baudry; Griffith, Smith (Laird 72); Cox; Mooney (Obafemi 72), Lisbie (Brunt 55)
