RUSSELL SLADE is pleased to have come through pre-season with his number one priority fulfilled – that virtually every member of his squad is fit and ready to begin the campaign in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup fixture at Charlton Athletic.
Only Jamie Jones is on the injured list as the O’s head to The Valley and even he could be back sooner than expected as he makes good progress on a shoulder injury.
So with his options including all eight new additions to his ranks over the summer, the O’s boss feels ready to get season 2012/13 underway.
He told leytonorient.com: “The important thing is to have all of your players available, or if not you’re close to having them all available.
“The only worry we have is Jamie Jones and other than that we’re all available to play. Some have had more minutes than others and they’re a little bit futher forward than others, but we’re ready.
“It’s a work in progress with eight new players, getting them to fit in and get used to the way we’re playing. That’s been an important part of pre-season because there has been a big turnover [of players]
“We’ve made steady progress and that finished with an encouraging performance at QPR only a week ago. But it all starts in earnest now.
“The emphasis changes now – you have to be on the mark and you have to be ready. All those sort of characteristics, that focus and attitude for the first game is important.”
