ORIENT defeated Charlton Athletic in a dramatic penalty shootout to cause a Capital One Cup shock at The Valley on Tuesday night.
The O’s triumphed 4-3 from the spot after the game finished locked at 1-1 as debutant keeper Ryan Allsop made himself the hero by saving from Johnnie Jackson at the start of the shootout.
It was an even an entertaining game, which saw Orient come from behind to cancel out Scott Wagstaff’s 29th minute opener.
Mathieu Baudry, one of eight debutants for the visitors, was Orient’s goalscorer, getting his head on the end of a Gary Sawyer header to bring Orient in level at the break.
Chances came and went for both sides – none better than David Mooney’s missed penalty right at the start of the second period, but in the end 120 minutes of football couldn’t separate them.
