REACTION: 'We Knew We Could Get At Them'

ORIENT’S win at Swindon Town may have come as a suprise to many in the football world given that the Robins hadn’t lost at their County Ground in the previous 12 months – but one person who wasn’t shocked was O’s matchwinner Lee Cook.

The 30-year-old winger struck the only goal of the game on the hour mark, giving the Londoners reward for an enterprising and positive display.

Cook, who signed a five-month contract with the Londoners at the end of August, felt the victory was justified given Orient’s positive approach to the contest.

“It’s massive to get that first win, especially at a place like Swindon,” he said. “We had a good feeling on Saturday, we had a good week’s training, and on Thursday and Friday there was a special kind of confidence that we were going to win.

“Fortunately we did and now we’ve got two home games coming up so it’s important that we build on that.

“We were away from home, but the gaffer went 4-4-2 because he thought we could get at them and win. From the first whistle we were at them and I think we could have scored two or three in the first half.

“We went in half time, continued that in the second half and got the goal. Then it was a case of defending as we have been doing, because we’ve been defending quite well in the last couple of games.

“It has been in the final third where the problems have been, so it was nice to get a goal and hopefully there’s a few more to come from myself and the other boys as well.”

Cook’s appearance at Swindon was just his third of the season after missing out on pre-season and linking up with the O’s in August.

He feels his fitness is improving all of the time and that there will be more to come from him as the weeks progress.

He added: “I felt so much better on Saturday. Getting that 65 minutes in at Crawley made such a big difference, getting a game in.

“That’s only my second game of the season on Saturday, I didn’t have any pre-season games. I got 85 in at Swindon so I’ll feel even better on Thursday.

“I want to have a right good go here this season, help the team as much as I can and get goals and assists.”
