1-0 TO the Orient is a scoreline that Russell Slade is more than happy with after back-to-back single goal successes propelled his side up to 16th in the npower League 1 table.
Orient followed their 1-0 victory at Swindon with another by that margin against London rivals Brentford on Thursday thanks to Ryan Brunt’s late winner.
Slade was happy with how his side hung on in there during a difficult first period and made the most of that by grabbing the winner towards the end.
“It’s becoming a familiar scoreline for us,” he smiled. “We lost the first two 1-0 but won the second two 1-0, so maybe these things even themselves out.
“It didn’t look that way in the first half because we were up against a very strong Brentford and to be honest they could have been a goal or two up.
“But we defended well, we stayed in the game and we were much, much more competitive in the second period and we came out on top in a tight game.”
Brunt’s goal, his first for the club, was the difference and Slade was delighted with his performance, and that of his namesake Allsop in goal as the O’s kept another clean sheet.
He added: “I was really pleased with him [Brunt]. He’s not had that many minutes on the pitch so far, but his contribution tonight was a real positive one and I’m really delighted for him.
“At the other end, for the other Ryan, his hands were good, his kicking was good and the experience he’s getting now is fantastic for him.
“He’s showing great maturity for a young keeper.”
