RUSSELL SLADE was delighted with the contriubtion of his squad after the likes of Moses Odubajo, Ryan Brunt and Jimmy Smith all came back into the team to help the O’s to a 1-0 win over Hartlepool on Tuesday.
And with the games continuing to come thick and fast, with Oldham on Saturday next up, manager Slade says all members of the first team squad will have to be ready to step in and play their part.
“There were one or two that for obvious reasons we changed to rest [on Tuesday], like Cookie, Symesy and Griff,” he explained.
“There’s an element of that when you’re playing two games a week like we have been doing and like we will continue to do so during October.
“It’s important that when players do come in they make a positive contribution and that’s what we got on Tuesday.”
Slade says that victory over Hartlepool, which was far more convincing than the 1-0 scoreline suggests, gives them great confidence heading into the Boundary Park clash.
And the manager says that will be needed as Oldham have taken seven points from the last nine.
“We go up there with confidence,” he added. “We’re taking on a team in good form at the minute, they did very well at Sheffield United – I watched the clippings from that game and they got a good home result against Preston before that.
“Paul’s got them really at it, so we know it’s going to be a tough game. They have a really nice balance to the team this season and they’ll push up the table for sure.
“We’ll have to hope that’s after Saturday and not before.”
