RUSSELL SLADE hailed the impact of Kevin Lisbie after he returned from injury to score a brace of goals in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Shrewsbury Town.

Lisbie nodded the winner with just two minutes remaining after the visitors cancelled out his first half penalty.

Slade felt he was a real influence, despite almost having to come off after taking a blow to the head early in the game.

“I’m so pleased for Kev on his comeback game that he’s managed to score two vital goals for us,” said the boss.

“He holds the ball up and he has a cleverness about him. He allows us to push up the field, he allows us to build up play.

“He’s a big part of that and you could see it today. He also got a bit of a knock on both his leg and his head early on.

“We were having to monitor him and there was a temptation to take him off late on, but I’m glad I decided to keep him on!”

The O’s three point haul was their first in five games – and their goals were their first in the same period – so Slade was delighted with the result.

He continued: “It’s a fantastic feeling because we so deserved it. We kept plugging away, and that despite playing on Wednesday and not quite having the same preparation time [as Shrewsbury].

“Our fitness was really good, we kept going right to the end and we were creating right to the end.

“The players are positive and that was shown in the way they responded to Shrewsbury equalising.

“To dominate the game and then be pegged back but go again was great credit to us.

“We were still probing away, we stuck to the gameplan and we got the result we deserved.”
