RUSSELL SLADE hailed Sunday’s 4-2 win over Alfreton as a great FA Cup tie after the O’s sealed their place in Round Three in entertaining fashion.

The O’s were slow out of the blocks and trailed to Paul Clayton’s early goal, but they came roaring back to lead 3-1 at the break and then hold off a spirited Alfreton revival to prevail.

“It was a great Cup tie,” said the O’s boss. “We didn’t start well and that didn’t please me. Their early goal set us back, but I felt once we got our first goal, we then played some fantastic football and got three goals to put us in the driving seat.

“When we got hold of the ball and started moving it we caused them problems. Our two wide players caused them enormous problems at times and the movement of Mooney and Lisbie too.

“Fair play to Alfreton, they came at us again and got a goal not long after half time. They put us under a little bit of pressure, hit the woodwork three or four times, but we had opportunities as well.

“We had opportunities to get the fourth goal before we actually did, but in effect that wrapped it up when Coxy put it in.

“[In the main] We were clinical and ruthless, that’s what you need to be. Defensively I think we could have been better today, you have to give Alfreton credit, they put us under a little bit of pressure and got themselves a couple of goals.”

The victory at the non-league club gives Orient a trip to Hull City in the third round and Slade says the O’s will relish the opportunity to claim a Cup scalp.

He added: “It’ll be a tough game. Hull City are going very well under Steve Bruce at the minute.

“They’ll be organised and obviously it’s quality opposition that you’re against.

“We know that it’ll be tough, but we’ll go there for free, try to score some goals, enjoy the Cup tie and see if we can get through. We’ve done it before – we did it at Swansea and Norwich, let’s see what we can do at Hull City.”
