CHORLEY: 'Experience Is Key'

BEN CHORLEY believes the experience of the O’s team is paying dividends as the Londoners continued their climb up the npower League 1 table with a 2-0 win at Bury on Saturday – their eighth consecutive three-point haul.

Chorley, who has taken over the captain’s armband with Nathan Clarke absent through injury in recent weeks, is one of six members of the O’s squad with more than 300 senior appearances under their belt.

He believes that is helping the O’s come to terms with the challenges posed by each match.

“It’s brilliant for us at the moment,” he beamed. “We’re doing the right things, defending well as a team and scoring goals at the other end.

“So the recipe is bang on, the mix is working perfectly, everyone’s putting a shift in.

“We knew it was going to be a battle on Saturday. It seems like we’re understanding that for the first hour of games, and we know that if we nick a goal, we never really look like conceding.

“There’s a lot of experience in this team, players who have played an awful lot of games. Apart from Moses, every player on the pitch has played 150-200 games and it makes a massive difference.”

It was one of those experienced players, Kevin Lisbie, who notched the two goals which saw off the Shakers at Gigg Lane at the weekend.

Lisbie shrugged off a bout of sickness to play his part and Chorley was full of praise for his contribution.

The defender added: “He was really ill to be fair, being sick all Friday night. He’s carried us a few times this season and today I said before the game ‘make sure we do it right for Lis’.

“It turned out that he scored two goals anyway and he’s playing well at the minute.”
