MOONEY: "It Pushes Us On"

ORIENT’S leading scorer David Mooney believes that the three points against Notts County on Saturday could give The O’s just the kick-start they need as they head into the business end of the season.

Mooney opened the scoring on 65 minutes when he headed home following Lee Cook’s shot that was deflected on to the crossbar. Despite furthering their lead just three minutes later through Mathieu Baudry, Orient were made to work hard for their three points as County got back in the game with Jeff Hughes firing home. However the Irishman believes The O’s were good value for their win.

“It was a deserved victory in the end, I think we played really well today and probably could have won it a bit more comfortably than we have, but the three points is massive for us and pushes us on. We’ve played really well this year and probably not had the rewards that we deserve and thankfully today we got three points.

“Kevin Nugent said to us the other day that they were unbeaten away all season, you don’t realise that coming in to games but it just goes to show you the quality they’ve got and I think everybody watching that would have enjoyed it. It was a good open game, there were loads of chances and thankfully we’ve managed the win.”

Mooney’s header was his eleventh goal of the season and the striker is keen for that continue.

“I don’t set myself targets, I just want to try and score in every game if I can, and I think with the boys we’ve got in the team, you’ve got people who can create chances for you and who I can create chances for as well. If I can score as many goals as I can to help the team then I’ll be really happy.”

Looking ahead, Mooney believes the upcoming period of games provide an opportunity to transform Orient’s season.

“The play-offs has been mentioned obviously, but with the next three games in Swindon, Tranmere and Stevenage, they’re going to be massive. If we can win all three it’d put us in a great position but we’ve just got to concentrate on the next game and hopefully if we beat Swindon, you never know where you are after that. Because we’ve done so well recently and not won, it’s been disappointing, we could be a hell of a lot closer than where we are, but thankfully today we’ve managed the win.”
