Russell Slade has spoken ahead of Orient’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Area Final first leg fixture against Southend United. The O’s have had a grueling few weeks having already played ten games since the turn of year, but enter the game unbeaten in their last four and Slade is pleased to turn his attentions to the long-awaited contest.
“Finally we can look forward to it and prepare for it and we’ll prepare for it like we do any other game. It’s an important game for us, both sets of players, the club and everything because there’s a slot at Wembley available and nobody wants to toss that away.” He said.
“It’d be fantastic to win, it’s what I want to do, I want to take the fans to Wembley. It’s been a big desire since we’ve got very close to doing so and we’re just a contest away from that now and we have to make sure we do it properly.
“The fans were terrific at Stevenage again and we want that especially when it’s a local derby. I need them on Tuesday to come out again and get behind the team. It’s never easy, the first legs are always tough and if we can take an advantage to their place I’ll be delighted.”
