BAUDRY: 'We Will Give It Everything'

We caught up with Orient defender Mathieu Baudry following Tuesday’s defeat to Southend.

What are your reflections on the game?

We are very disappointed because we created a lot of opportunities to go ahead and then they scored so that was disappointing for us. Also their goalkeeper made a number of outstanding saves. We almost got an equaliser but the ball hit the crossbar. Maybe, if we create as many chances in the return game, then it can’t happen that we will have no goals again, so that’s encouraging. But it’s only half-time in the tie and we will try to make it up. Now we have to go to their place and win it’s as simple as that.
What were conditions like, the pitch looked difficult?

The pitch wasn’t great but it was the same for both teams. We do like to play the ball around so maybe it wasn’t advantageous for us but despite the pitch, we should maybe have scored a goal. But as I say, we are only at the halfway stage and we’ll have to wait and see what happens in the return.
How are the team going to approach the second leg?

We have to go there to win, that is the minimum we need. But the tie is still open; there is just the one goal difference so we will try to do everything to create plenty of chances as we have done in this game.
You were involved in the Southend goal when the ball took a deflection off you?

Yes, the ball was crossed in and I think it was deflected and I had to change direction, he got the ball before me and it hit me, took a deflection and went into the goal. I should have dealt better with that to be honest.
You are still just 90 minutes away from Wembley, in this country, it’s every boy’s dream to play at Wembley, is it the same in France as well?

Yes of course, the place has a great history with all the finals that have been played there and all the players want to go there. It would be amazing for the fans as well. So we will go to Southend and give it everything we can in order to get to Wembley.
Now we have to turn our attention to Tranmere on Saturday, a win against them could put us in contention for the play-offs?

Yes, it is a really important game, we need to be competitive but we will give it everything we’ve got. We are not far off the play-offs now, just five points. Every game we start we want to win and after tonight’s result, we are very disappointed but we will concentrate now on Saturday’s game.
Your own form is very encouraging; there have been changes at the back with Ben Chorley leaving and Scott Cuthbert back in the centre of defence. You seem to complement each other very well?

Yes, we have had some outstanding centre-backs this season and I think I have played with three of them and every time it went well. It’s a question of talking a lot and they are quality players so there is no problem with that.
