You must have been delighted with that win?
“It was a great performance and now it’s on to the next game and hopefully we can keep the run going.”
You are hitting form at the right time. It looks as if you have put the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy exit firmly behind you…
“We are using that disappointment to try and sort out our league form and in the last few league games we have been playing really well.”
What’s the secret behind the good run?
“There isn’t one. We are just going for it and see what happens. It’s on to the next game and we will see where it takes us.”
What was your take on Carlisle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie picking up a yellow card for handling the ball outside the area in the first half? Should it have been red?
“To be fair yellow was the sensible one. I think it was a good call from the referee. He was spot one with the actual penalty we were given too.”
The first goal was so important and it changed the match didn’t it?
“It gave us a foothold in the game, until then it was a bit scrappy and we were finding our feet. It gave us a platform to go on and I thought to be honest, from 30 minutes into the first half and for the rest of the game we put a really good shift in and passed the ball very well at times. Obviously, the sending off helps, but you can only play what is in front of you and I thought we did it well.”
The second goal came at the perfect time just before the interval…
“To be fair that was probably the killer so close to half time. It was a great lift for us and a big disappointment for them.”
The win has lifted you to within three points of the play-offs can you make it?
“We’re not thinking about it, it’s just on to the next game. It’s a hard league we know that, but if we keep playing like we are at the moment and keep picking up points we may have a chance. But we’re just thinking about next week at Preston.”
It looks a really good squad with everyone playing with confidence at the moment…
“It’s very close to the first year I was here. We have got some very good players and the gaffer has brought in some very good loanees that have really helped the group. Everybody’s contributing and everyone is playing well and it’s on to the next game and hopefully we will get another positive result.”
It was nice to get on the score sheet with that goal right near the end…
“It’s been a while and when that went in I knew the game was dead and buried.”
Did you enjoy your tackle with the advertising hoardings in the first half?!
“Both elbows, back, neck it did hurt, but nothing broken, so I will get on with it!”
