Sport and Learning Hub
LOCSP is currently delivering a series of exciting and innovative full time education and sport courses for young people aged 16 – 18 in conjunction with the Football League Trust and Waltham Forest College. Through these courses, students complete BTEC Sport Level, 1,2 and 3 courses combined with practical sports sessions.  The courses are delivered in the Leyton Orient Education Centre in the media room within the West Stand and in the excellent sports facilities of the Score Centre sent on Oliver Road opposite the stadium.
Futsal Scholarship
The LOCSP two year Futsal Scholarship course currently has 19 participants who represent Leyton Orient in a fortnightly South East England league with an A and B team squad playing matches against the likes of Southend United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Stevenage, Crystal Palace, and Ipswich Town based at the Score Centre’s international futsal arena.
Students study for a BTEC Sport Level 3 Extended Diploma, equal to 3 A levels for ten hours per week on an online learning platform at the club  and train and play matches for another eight hours.
A lot of football fans have heard of futsal but might be unsure what it actually entails. Futsal is a fast paced indoor five-a-side game developed in Brazil and widely played in Europe that focuses on passing, dribbling and movement with a weighted size 4 ball to encourage skills development amongst players that can be transferred into the 11-a-side game.  All club results, match reports and player profiles are highlighted on the league website http://tvseducation.com/club/leyton-orient/
‘A’ team player Theodore Thomas said: “It’s great to combine my education with playing futsal for my local team and I really enjoy the buzz of competing against other league clubs for the O’s.
“It would be great if we could get into the national finals in Birmingham at the end of the season.  I’m also hoping to gain a distinction in my BTEC Sport course and this will give me the opportunity to go onto future studies within Higher Education.”
Course leader Alan Blackman commented: “We are giving a unique opportunity for young people to combine an advanced academic full time course with quality coaching and playing opportunities.
“The online learning platform we use enables students to study at their own pace and complete work in our club classroom and at home giving them independent learning skills.  Hopefully we can prepare them for a career in the sports and leisure industry and for some to play futsal at a national and international level.”
New courses and recruitment 2013-14
As a result of the success of the current courses LOCSP is looking to recruit new full time students aged 16 -18 for its new course programmes from September 2013.
