LOAN UPDATE: The Latest On Our Loanees

Anthony Griffith (on loan at Port Vale)

The tough-tackling midfielder re-joined his former club at the start of March and will remain at Vale Park until the end of the season.
Since signing, Griffith has made four starts for the Valiants in their bid for promotion of which they have won two, drawn one and lost one. Micky Adams’ men had topped the table in early February only to go on a poor run of two wins from nine matches.
Vale remain on course for automatic promotion in second place but are now beginning to look over their shoulder with rivals Burton Albion, Northampton and Cheltenham Town only a point or two behind.

Michael Symes (on loan at Burton)

Like Griffith, experienced striker Symes arrived in E10 in May 2012 as Russell Slade looked to boost his O’s attack.
However, injuries and the form of Kevin Lisbie and David Mooney saw opportunities difficult to come by for the 29-year-old and the former Everton trainee took the opportunity in January to sign on loan at Burton until the end of the season.
Symes has aided a surprise charge for promotion from the Brewers, netting three times in his eight appearances to date, including a stunning volley to give his side a 2-1 win at Aldershot on 13 March.
Burton are currently on a club record run of nine successive home victories and lie just inside the automatic promotion places in League Two, a point ahead of Northampton and Cheltenham but just a point behind second placed Port Vale.

Meanwhile in the youth team De’Reece Vanderhyde has been on a couple of successful loan spells recently, first of all at high-flying Conference South side Welling United where he made four appearances and played a key role in them maintaining pole position in the league. Then more recently he made the move north to Bishop’s Stortford before returning to the O’s for the youth team’s push for the title.
