ORIENT forward David Mooney has beaten off competition to be crowned the Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month for September.
It was a prolific month for Mooney who notched four in times in as many games to take his tally to nine league goals for the season.
Upon receiving the prize Mooney said: “It’s fantastic for me and I’m delighted but it’s as much an award for the rest of the team as it is for. I just want Saturday to come around now I’m hoping to get ten. I just want to keep going, Me and Kev (Lisbie) keep saying to each other before every game ‘lets get a goal’ and were big on that I think this year every game one of us has scored and I think if we can keep that going and then hopefully the team will keep winning. The boys at the back and Jamie Jones in goal have been fantastic too and we have only conceded four or five goals all year and that’s credit to them and the work that they do on the training pitch.”
Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade was also pleased for his forward: “I’m very pleased for David to get the award and the recognition he deserves. He’s one of a number of players who has started well for us this season. His nine goals have really capped off some excellent performances.”
Sky Bet Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “David Mooney has been in prolific form in front of goal this term. Nine goals from 12 games is a great return at any level.
“It’s great to see David has found a new lease of life at Orient and he’s struck up a formidable partnership with Kevin Lisbie which has seen Orient off to an amazing start this season.”
Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins said: “David has been in devastating form this month.
“His ice-cool spot kick opener away to Brentford proved vital for the O’s continued fine form.”
