Saturday saw around 70 members associated with local junior football team Athletico DFZ attend the O’s fixture with Sheffield United as part of the O’s 50/50 Community Ticket Scheme.
The 50/50 Community Ticket Scheme is available now for affiliated clubs, community groups and registered charities as a fantastic way of raising money for a specific project or cause and one the Athletico DFZ took up for the fixture against Sheffield United last weekend.
Sarah Eastham, Treasurer for the club said, “The majority of the kids had not been to a match in a stadium before, and they loved it. They managed to get the mascot waving at them, continued with attempted Mexican waves throughout, and were very vocal supporters of the O’s.”
“The 50/50 initiative enabled us to give all the kids a ticket, it meant it was really inclusive and we had over 35 kids with us in total. In addition we have been able to put money towards an away kit for the U12s and U11s.”
Pictured above are some of the team in the crowd at Saturday’s game. The club were originally set up with training taking place in the dog free zone in Clissold Park and took this location to form the name Athletico DFZ. The team now play their home games on Hackney Marshes on Saturday mornings and booked in a group visit through the 50/50 scheme to come and support their local club which also helped raise funds for their away kit in the process.
Sarah continued, “We have had great feedback from kids and parents, there are some new Orient fans and we hope that this will be an annual outing.”
As part of the 50/50 Community Tickets Scheme, an affiliated club, community group or registered charity can select a game of their choice* to attend, selling tickets at £15 for adults and £5 for concessions to their players, members, family and friends. The club or charity can then keep 50% of ticket sales which could go towards facilities, playing kit, an end of season or pre-season tour or a charity of their choice.
