The winners of our local community Football League Girls Cup competition were guests at the Crawley Town game recently and were presented with their trophy at half time by first team squad member Jack Sherratt.
Chingford Foundation’s year 8 girls football team had to overcome 15 other sides to reach the area finals of the prestigious competition where the eventual finalists from across the country will play against each other on the hallowed turf of Wembley Stadium prior the League One Play-Off final!
All 72 Football League clubs hold their own local tournament to find the school that will represent their club in area finals, hoping to then go onto a regional final before the ultimate prize of that trip to Wembley.
Trudi Culverhouse, PE teacher at the school said, “The girls are buzzing and can’t wait for the next round. We are so pleased to be representing Leyton Orient and to be invited to the game today and parade the trophy around the pitch is just fantastic.”
The girls now travel to hosts Southend United in January where they will be up against schools representing; Millwall, QPR, AFC Wimbledon, Charlton Athletic, Dagenham and Redbridge, Gillingham and Southend.
“It’s going to be tough,” added Trudi, “as we were representatives two seasons ago and didn’t quite make it. But we are determined to go at least one better this time around.”
We wish the girls the best of luck and will bring full details of how they get on.
