Having already beaten off stiff competition from 14 other schools in the local schools area tournament, culminating in a tense 1-0 extra-time win in the final over rivals Jenny Hammond primary, Chase Lane will now face their counterparts from 11 other southern based League One clubs including Brentford, Coventry and MK Dons.
The boys and their coach, Tyrone Hercules, were guests of the club for the recent game versus Colchester United and were presented with their Area Final winners trophy by Community Liaison Officer Howard Gould during the half time break.
“This is my second season being involved with the Football League Kids and Girls Cup tournaments and when it gets to this stage, it’s really exciting,” commented Howard. “The school has a tremendous chance of playing at Wembley and that will also be a great ‘feather in the cap’ for the club too.”
Although the journey to Swindon will mean an early start for the Chingford based team, Tyrone is looking forward to the competition. “Yes, it will mean we will probably have to meet about 6.30am but we are raring to go and have even organised an after-school match on Wednesday to get that final bit of match practice! The prize of a chance of playing at Wembley is incredible and a once in a life-time opportunity so we will grasp it with both hands.
“And we’d like to thank Howard for inviting us to the game today and to be able to parade around the pitch with the trophy. The boys are buzzing and feel like real football stars. We’ll do our very best to get Orient to Wembley!”
If successful in Swindon, the team will then partake in the ultimate final against the northern region winners prior to the League One Play-Off Final on May 25th.
We wish the squad; Obed, Jack, Ange, Luke, Harvey, Demaray, Daniel, Mahdi, Dotun and Tyreece the best of luck and will report on how they get on.
