The pitch at the Matchroom Stadium underwent some maintenance work at the start of June and remains on course to be another excellent playing surface for the 2014-15 season.
Head groundsman Colin James and his assistant Nathan Howse have been hard at work since after the top layer of soil was removed and re-seeded and James is pleased with how things are going.
“It’s been down three weeks and I’m pleased with how things are going,” revealed James. “We are cutting three times a week with the light Honda mowers and it has had a second feed of fertiliser with a third one coming at the end of this week. By the end of next week we should be out with the big matchday mowers as the roots should be strong enough by then.
“We are four weeks away from the first friendly on it and we are right on schedule for that. There are a couple of areas that need a bit of extra seed but that is expected and the rain at the weekend would have helped it which puts natural nitrogen into it.”
