New Leyton Orient owner and chairman Francesco Becchetti faced the media for the first time on Thursday morning as he laid out his ambitions for the O’s.
“An era is not finishing and a new era is not beginning,” said Becchetti. “We are continuing with ever more strength in the history of Leyton Orient. I have found a wonderful team here; I have found everything clean in the point of view of management and accounts. The well kept accounts, the history and the location of the Club all appealed to me.
“The passion for a challenge belongs to our very DNA, we think that together with Barry and our friends here, our staff will be wonderfully integrated with his and we can look to new horizons, a new future and new ambition.”
The new owner also revealed he has full faith in Orient manager Russell Slade and has already started working towards making new signings.
“We renew and reiterate how much we appreciate Russell’s contribution and we have worked almost all night on transfers and in the next few hours we have a few announcements to make I think. I asked Russell to give me a list of five players for every position and we work from there.”
Mr. Becchetti also pledged to keep the O’s in E10.
“This is our home and will remain our home,” he said.
Departing Chairman Barry Hearn summed up his 20 years at the Club and thanked the fans for their support.
“I came into the Club as a fan. I stay on as a fan. I believe Mr.Becchetti is the man to take this Club forward.
“I’m proud of the stability of the Club, the support the fans have given us over 20 years has been phenomenal.”
