HADLEIGH UTD 1-2 ORIENT U18s
ANDY EDWARDS’ youngsters continued their 100 per cent record in pre-season with an impressive win over non-league side Hadleigh United.
Following on from their wins over Charlton Athetic and Cambridge United, the side who won the Eastern Counties Premier League provided a different test for the O’s with their physicality and experience, and the U18s showed tremendous character to overturn a 1-0 deficit and pick up a win.
It was an entertaining game in front of a decent crowd in Suffolk as the O’s passed the ball well but lacked a bit of composure in the final third during the first half. Sandro Semedo tested the goalkeeper from distance as did Shola Oladipo as both sides limited each other to half chances with Hadleigh only really looking a threat for set pieces.
The deadlock remained at the interval but Orient switched off at the restart and went 1-0 down almost immediately as they failed to press the ball well and suffered a defensive relapse.
The response from the U18s was excellent though who were patient in possession and grabbed a leveller with 20 minutes to when Victor Adeboyejo cut in from the right and curled a bending shot past the goalkeeper with his left peg.
The goal spurred Orient on and they soon had a winner when a good counter gave Christian Owusu space to get a shot away that was blocked into the path of Montel Agyemang who slotted home the rebound.
The youngsters kept their composure to see the game out and can approach their next game – the first League game at Barnet on August 9 – with confidence.
