Club backs Anti-Knife UK

The Club has continued to support Anti-Knife UK which was set up by O’s steward Danny O’Brien. Danny has written a few words below explaining the campaign and how you can help and purchase one of the blue awareness bands that the players are wearing in the photo above…
I have been campaigning against knife crime since 2008 after seeing too many youths being murdered on our streets . But sadly knife crime is still a major issue across the whole of the UK, if
not across the world.

I set up ANTI-KNIFE UK and last year we became a non4 profit group and we can be found on both Facebook and Twitter where I show on a daily basis that knife crime is still happening and it is not just a gang or big city problem, but very much a community problem that effects all ages and all sexes.

In 2012 Orient started to back the campaign work I was doing thanks to Zoe Young who was the stadium manager and she took a set of our posters and put them up around the ground and I believe some are still up.

Then last season many members of the team supported  THE THUMBS DOWN 2 KNIFE CRIME  campaign with many tweeting me their Thumbs down pics.

This season many of the players have brought the ANTI-KNIFE UK wristband which is helping to fund future campaigns and awareness work across the country and hopefully local schools as we head into 2015.

Last year we sponsored Lloyd James’ boots and we would love to do more work with the club and local schools moving forwards.

I am at present working as steward and looking after the players’ cars on match days which means I dont see the game but have got to know the players much better and what a good bunch they are.

The Wristbands are only £1 and supporters can get them by emailing me [email protected] all money raised or donations goes straight back into the group to pay for workshops and travel costs etc.

If the work I do can stop one family from losing a loved one…..then it is worth it.

But a big thank you to all at Orient who have shown their support, whether players, staff, stewards and fans.
