Age UK Waltham Forest
Founded in 1982, our aim is to promote the well being of all older adults and to help make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. Each year, in one way or another, we work with over 12,000 older adults in Waltham Forest.
We are a member of the Age UK Federation but like all other local Age UK offices, we are an independent local charity and have to raise all of our own income.
Recently, there have been severe cuts in funding to services for older people. We have had our funding reduced to critical levels but we are also seeing a rise in requests for help from older people and are having to use our reserves to continue essential services.
We have recently moved into new premises which we are sharing with Reaching Out East, a like-minded local charity which works with disabled and socially isolated people. We have a space for activities but we need funds to buy furniture (tables, chairs etc) and to support the start-up costs of activities such as Coffee Mornings, Information and Advice Drop-Ins, Dementia and Dance, Tai Chi and Beginners Computers Classes for older people.
We hope that, with the support of Leyton Orient Football Club and supporters of the match today, we will be able to buy the necessary furniture to make our activity area a well used, accessible space for older adults and disabled people in our community.
