ORIENT U15 forward Jay Beckford has become the latest O’s Academy player to achieve international recognition, after being called up to the England U15 squad for the forthcoming game against Northern Ireland on Friday in Belfast.
Beckford has already been offered a scholarship with the club and has been with the O’s a number of years. He follows in the footsteps of Charlie Grainger, who won his first cap for England U18s last year, and Sam Roach the U16 goalkeeper who has been selected for a forthcoming England training camp, as the club continues to produce international standard young players. The three called up in 2014 are the first in nearly 20 years, demonstrating the progress being made at academy level.
O’s academy director Andy Edwards said: “I’m delighted for Jay, it’s a fantastic achievement for him and I’m sure he will go there and impress. He fully deserves the opportunity and it’s great that at international level people are recognising the work we are doing here to produce young players.”
