LEYTON ORIENT have again been voted as the best club in League 1 for using social media in the Sports Social Media Index (SSMI).
Remarkably the O’s have also remained in the top five in the UK for the second year in succession (in fifth) after a third placed finish last year.
The Sport Social Media Index www.sport.socialmediaindex.co.uk is an annual league table produced by PR and social media agency Umpf with partners William Hill of 148 British professional football (English Premier League, Championship, Leagues One and Two; plus the SPL) rugby (Super League and Premiership) and cricket (County Championship Divisions One and Two) teams, ranked according to the best use of social media by their official club channels.
The index took four months in the making and is a benchmark of social media success among professional British sports teams whilst the table is based on the research from a team of nine people who looked at eight social networks, as well as a panel of four judges who presided over the results.
O’s media and communications manager Jonny Davies said: “It’s really pleasing to score so highly again despite the fact that things are not going so well on the pitch at the moment. It can be a tough job juggling our various channels of communication but we always try to keep social media at the forefront of what we do and hopefully the fans are seeing the benefits of that.”
