Our hospice partners, St. Joseph’s in Hackney and Haven House Children’s hospice, located in Woodford, were guests of the club for the game against Gillingham on Easter Monday and took the opportunity to join together and fundraise around the ground via a bucket collection for their very worthy causes.
To help raise awareness, the player’s wore a mixture of hospice t-shirts for their pre-match warm up and siblings and young relatives of those using the hospice services were our flag bearers and guard of honour for the game.
Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, said, “We’re delighted to have such strong links with Leyton Orient and its supporters. Thanks to everyone who donated to the bucket collection. All funds raised for Haven House will help to support our work with life-limited children and families in the local area.”
And Aastha Gill, part of the Community and Events team at Haven House said, “It was a remarkable team effort. A big thanks to you and your team [Leyton Orient] for your kind support from all the children, families, volunteers and staff at Haven House. The game was really exciting and we are truly thankful for the generosity of the Orient fans. They never let us down!”
There was also an opportunity for some of the young guests to take penalties at half time against O’s mascot Theo and his counterpart from Haven House, Henry the Hound.
Gemma Cornwell, Head of Community Fundraising at St. Joseph’s said, “The whole day was amazing. Everything was organized perfectly and the children involved with the flags and penalties had a wonderful experience.
“Thank you to everyone that put money in our collection buckets, you were all very generous and the total raised for St Joseph’s Hospice and Haven House Children’s Hospice was £903.82. We will divide this equally and this will help both hospices continue to provide vital support for adults and children across East London who live with life-limiting illness.”
You can also support both hospices by attending the celebrity football match involving a Spurs Legends X1 taking place at the Matchroom Stadium on May 17th. Click here for more details or to buy tickets: http://www.stjh.org.uk/celebrityfootball
