Orient midfielder Jobi McAnuff starred as Jamaica secured a 1-0 victory over El Salvador in their final Group B encounter of the Gold Cup.
Having already secured a place in the quarter-finals, the Reggae Boyz claimed the spoils at the BMO Field, Toronto, thanks to Garath McCleary’s 72nd minute finish in what was the first Gold Cup game played in Canada.
McAnuff played a huge role in the decisive goal as his shot from the edge of the penalty area was parried into the path of McCleary who slid in to slot home the rebound.
Jamaica were made to sweat for the final nine minutes however as they were reduced to 10-men after Darren Mattocks was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
McAnuff and Jamaica now prepare for their quarter-final fixture against Haiti on Saturday, which will also see a Caribbean side make the semi-finals for the first time since 2007.
