O’s midfielder Jobi McAnuff and his Jamaica compatriots lost out in the Gold Cup final 3-1 to Mexico last night.

The Reggae Boyz had produced a great run to make it through to this stage, and became the first Caribbean side to reach the final.

Andres Guardado, who went on to  win the Gold Ball award for the most influential player at the tournament, put Mexico in front on the half hour mark, and they remained 1-0 up at the break.

They doubled their lead two minutes into the second half when Jesus Corona slotted home, before effectively sealing the tie on 61 minutes as Oribe Peralta netted.

Darren Mattocks did give Jamaica slight hope with a goal 10 minutes from time, but Mexico were able to secure victory and a seventh Gold Cup win.

McAnuff once again featured for the entire 90 minutes, and played in every game of the Reggae Boyz’ Gold Cup campaign, while also scoring in their 2-2 draw with Costa Rica in the group stages.
