Leyton Orient U18’s ended their pre-season schedule in brilliant fashion as they defeated Hadleigh United’s first team 6-1.
After enduring a tough start to the match as they adapted to the physicality of adult opposition, the O’s fell behind when a cross from the left dropped out to the edge of the area before a Hadleigh player reacted quickest to work some space and fire beyond Sam Sargeant.
The goal sparked Orient into life however and with five minutes of the first half remaining they equalised against the run of play.
Midfielder Henry Ochieng worked tirelessly to regain possession just inside the hosts half before Aron Pollock showed great awareness to spot the Hadleigh goalkeeper off his line and curl a brilliant shot past him from 40-yards.
Academy Director Andy Edwards’ half-time team talk clearly worked as the young O’s side came out rejuvenated for the second half and on the 50th minute they edged in front when Sam Alderson placed a free-kick from the edge of the area into the bottom corner.
Josh Koroma came on for the O’s during the break and the forward then extended Orient’s lead with a deft chip over the ‘keeper having got in behind the defence, before adding a second with a finish from the edge of the penalty area after combining well with Steven Alzate.
Alzate was then added his name to the scoresheet with a wonderful individual goal as he worked his way from the right to the left before rifling an unstoppable strike into the roof of the net.
The O’s were not finished their however as Charley Barker wrapped up a superb second-half display late on as he got on the end of Koroma’s cross to volley home the O’s sixth.
