New O’s loanee Joe Maguire may have tasted defeat in his first game at the Club, but he is hoping they can bounce back in style on Saturday at Exeter City.
The 20-year-old made his debut at centre back in the 2-1 loss at Luton Town in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last night, and thought delighted to make his first appearance for the O’s, he was frustrated they didn’t come away with the victory.
“We went into the game hoping to keep up our unbeaten run but we unfortunately couldn’t get the win,” he told leytonorient.com
“I was made up to get my debut, but the win is more important and we didn’t get that.”
It is still early days for Maguire with the O’s having joined on loan from Liverpool on Friday, but the defender has been impressed with what he has seen amongst the squad.
“I have only been with the team a couple of days, but I have already got on well with the boys,” he added.
“Hopefully I can build some good partnerships at back with the rest of the boys, and use this experience to help me progress as a player. I hadn’t been playing first-team football at Liverpool and it is important for me to be getting game time at this stage of my career.
“We are all focused now on kicking on in the league and the FA Cup when that comes around.
“You cannot fault the spirit in the dressing room. I could see the quality of the team as soon as I came into the squad and witnessed it in training. Everyone is together and we just have to forget about that defeat and get back to extending that unbeaten run in the league on Saturday.”
