It is with considerable regret that the Club have been informed that our hero from the 1961-62 season, Malcolm Graham died on Saturday, aged 81.

Malcolm joined Orient in June 1960 for a fee of £8,000 and enjoyed a three-year stay at Brisbane Road, where he netted a total of 34 goals in 84 league and cup appearances.

He scored seven goals in his first season with the O’s, but it was his second season that was most memorable. He formed a wonderful partnership with Dave Dunmore in attack, with the pair netting a combined total of 35 League goals.

Malcolm scored 13 of those goals, and will always be remembered for his double in the final day win over Bury which secured the O’s promotion to the top flight for the first and only time.

After leaving Brisbane Road, he played one season for QPR before returning to his home town club, Barnsley, although he and his family regarded his time at Orient to be his happiest period in the game.

In January 2014, O’s supporter Alan Chandler met up with Malcolm and his family in Barnsley to present him with a bottle of champagne to celebrate his 80th birthday.

The Club would like to pass on their condolences to Malcolm’s family and friends at this very sad time.
