Leyton Orient battled their way to a 1-0 win to open their Final Third Development League campaign.
Ollie Palmer’s strike midway through the first half settled the game, and though the visitors created the more chances, Charlie Grainger and the O’s were able to keep a clean sheet to ensure victory.
Chances came and went for the visitors early on as Anthony Costa’s header from a corner struck the bar, before a number of off target efforts fell to Costa and Jack Marriott.
Grainger was called into action and produced a solid save to deny Pelly Ruddock-Mpanzu, before Dan Potts blazed over the rebound.
But it was the hosts who took the lead with a lovely move which started at the back with Jack Humphrey.
His through ball found Moncur who touched the ball into the path of Palmer who took a couple of touches before firing low past Hatters goalkeeper Craig King.
Grainger did well once again to deny Marriott before the half was out and the hosts went into the break 1-0 up.
After the interval Palmer saw a shot deflected behind for a corner, and O’s should have doubled their lead when Curtley Williams’ loose ball fell into the path of Scott Kashket but his effort was saved by the onrushing King.
Grainger again denied Marriott and Zane Banton as Luton looked for a equaliser, while up the other end substitute Jobi McAnuff saw a shot well saved by King.
Time was running out but the visitors had one last chance to find a late equaliser, however Potts fired a header over from a corner.
