On Saturday 3rd October, Barts Charity will be raising vital funds to benefit children in our community as part of their Barts Kids Bones appeal at Leyton Orient FC’s home game against Notts County.
The Charity has been working with Leyton Orient to support the children’s orthopaedic services at Barts Health NHS Trust, which seeks to provide the best care possible and be there for all children, from babies with life-threatening problems to older children with broken bones.
The day will involve patients from the orthopaedic clinics taking half-time penalties against Orient’s mascot, Theo the Wyvern, and acting as club and charity ambassadors.
The Club have a long history of supporting Barts Charity and the local community, with players visiting children at Whipps Cross Hospital every Christmas.
Barts Kids Bones is an appeal run by Barts Charity that seeks to raise awareness of and vital funds for the orthopaedic services at Barts Health NHS Trust, which cares for over 15,000 babies, children and adolescents from the local community every year. Staff on the clinics treat a wide range of problems, including severely debilitating bone and joint disorders.
Luke Allen, aged 7, is one patient who has been cared for by our hospitals since the day he was born, and as one of our ambassadors on the day, will be taking penalties, touring the pitch and even saying a few words at half time. Luke suffers from Arthrogyrposis, a congenital condition that affects the muscles, causing limbs, joints and bones to twist and stiffen.
“We’re very thankful to Leyton Orient FC for supporting us and the Barts Kids Bones appeal,” said Simon Pitts, Community Manager at Barts Charity.
“Barts Health NHS Trust is home to the busiest children’s orthopaedic team in London – seeing over 15,000 babies, children and adolescents every year, with specialists and local clinics across The Royal London, Whipps Cross and Newham hospitals – and this special day gives us a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for the children and families in our local community that rely so heavily on their services.”
Tickets are available from www.leytonorient.com. You can support Barts Kids Bones by texting “BKBA14 £5” to 70070.
