Leyton Orient’s U18s picked up a comprehensive win at the weekend as they put Cambridge United to the sword with a 7-0 victory.
The goals were spread around with Josh Koroma netting a brace, while Rian McLean, Victor Adeboyejo, Christian Owusu, Charley Barker and Pat Adamson also registered in the big victory.
The O’s were dominant throughout and were 2-0 up at the half-time break after scoring twice in the opening five minutes.
They turned the screw in the second period and went on to add another five to seal the victory, and Academy Director Andy Edwards was pleased with the showing from the youngsters, which included appearances for under-16s Arthur Janata and Ruel Sotiriou.
“It was a very good result for the team and we were disappointed not to score a few more,” said Edwards.
“We were fortunate to keep a clean sheet though so there is still plenty for us to work on as we look to continue to progress and develop.”
The O’s have also been handed an away tie in the first round of the FA Youth Cup, where they will face either AFC Hornchurch or Bedfont Sports.
“Either team will be a tough test for us, as we have found out when we have faced the likes of Thurrock and Bromley in previous years,” he added.
“The non-league sides will have had a few rounds under their belt and will have confidence so we have to be wary of whoever we come up against. Every year there is an upset and we just have to make sure it’s not us.”
The young O’s, who currently sit third in the South East Division of the Youth Alliance League, will be hoping to build on last weekend’s win when they face a trip to fourth-placed Northampton Town on Saturday.
