Orient Academy Director Andy Edwards is keen for his young O’s to build on a solid start to the season with progression in the FA Youth Cup tie against AFC Hornchurch.
The Young O’s currently sit in third place in the Youth Alliance South East Division, having won eight of their 13 league games, before exiting the Youth Alliance Cup on penalties to undefeated league leaders Luton Town on Friday.
And ahead of tonight’s game, Edwards was pleased with how the squad is progressing and developing over the course of the season.
“It was disappointing to get beaten on penalties on Friday, but we are quite pleased with the new group of first year scholars and how they have settled in. It has been a positive season and it has been nice to see the likes of youth team graduates Freddy Moncur, Charlie Grainger Scott Kashket, Sandro Semedo and Myles Judd all get some first-team minutes under their belts,” Edwards told leytonorient.com.
The O’s face Hornchurch at Bridge Avenue tonight, and is wary of the tough challenge they will pose.
“Everyone looks forward to the FA Youth Cup and wants to have a good run in the competition,” he added. “It will be a tough game and we are aware they are on a good run of results this season, with a lot of Barking Abbey Schoolboys in their side as well. It’s at their ground but we will be well prepared and fully focused on tonight’s game.
