Alex Cisak and Frazer Shaw joined hundreds of O’s fans and local residents both young and old to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the SCORE Centre last week.

The club’s Aussie stopper and left back were there to hand out trophies at the Laurie Cunningham Cup, one of a number of events run throughout the week by Leyton Orient Trust to celebrate the anniversary.

They included a special free half-term Theo’s Gang soccer session and Walking Football and Boccia sessions for the over 50’s and over 60’s.  The week ended with a day of sporting and cultural activities for young people from the Noor UI Islam mosque in Leyton, one of 75 local organisations who, along with the Trust use SCORE to run a range of sporting, health and education programmes for the local community.

Over 200 young people and 23 teams took part in The Laurie Cunningham Cup, a neighbourhood youth football tournament also run as part of Kick It Out week. The boys under 14 competition was won by Marlow FC with XLP, a team from Bow and Tower Hamlets, taking the under 16’s title. AFC Leyton Orient ran out eventual winners of the girls competition.

Neil Taylor, Chief Executive, Leyton Orient Trust said:

“It was a fantastic and fitting way to celebrate 10 years of SCORE with people of all ages and different sections of the local community coming together to take part in a range of different activities across the week. We hope that those who came down and tried out something at SCORE for the first time will come back again.”

O’s keeper Cisak, added: “It was great to see so many young people taking part and get the chance to meet some of them. There was a real buzz about the place when Frazer and I were there and to see at first hand how much goes on at SCORE was a real eye opener.”

The SCORE Centre is used by over 3,000 local people every week and is owned by Waltham Forest Council with the Trust in charge of running its sports facilities. The Club has been major users of the centre since 2005 with the First and Youth teams using it for pre-season training. The Academy also use it as a regular training base.
