Orient Head Coach Ian Hendon will be looking for an immediate response from his side as they host Ryman Premier side Staines Town in the FA Cup First Round tomorrow.
The O’s go into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat last weekend against Accrington Stanley, and Hendon knows it’s imperative to put on a much-improved showing against the Swans.
“The key when you come off the back of a bad performance is the next game and this game cannot come quick enough for us,” Hendon told leytonorient.com.
“It is a break from the league for us and the sole focus tomorrow is to make sure we come out on top and are in the draw for the second round.”
They come up against a side managed by the experienced Nicky Forster, while on the playing side they could include former O’s defender Darren Purse. Like any other game, the O’s have done their homework and Hendon is prepared for a tough challenge.
“Nicky and Darren are experienced people to have in their set-up. Nicky enjoyed an illustrious career and was a good lad to play against, so we are looking forward to locking horns once again at the weekend.
“It will be their Cup Final and anyone coming to our stadium on our pitch get inspired by playing there, but we have watched them and they are going to be difficult as every team is.”
The O’s go into the game without defender Connor Essam, whose initial diagnosis on the ankle injury picked up in last weekend’s defeat to Accrington suggests an extended lay-off, while midfielder Bradley Pritchard misses out after picking up his fifth booking of the season last Saturday.
Essam had been an ever-present for Orient since his summer arrival from Dover Athletic and Hendon is disappointed to be without the 23-year-old’s services.
“Unfortunately after last weekend’s game we found out that Connor could be out for around six-eight weeks after his initially diagnosis,” he said.
“We wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully we can get him back quicker. He’s that sort of lad.
“Apart from Bradley’s suspension everyone else is ok. Both Jack Payne and John Marquis are available as there is an agreement in both their loans to play in the competition.”
