Orient picked up a comprehensive 4-1 Development League win over Southend United.
O’s picked a strong starting line-up with new signings Nicky Hunt and Shaun Brisley lining up in defence, while player-manager Kevin Nolan also got 45 minutes under his belt.
A Jordan Williams own goal got the ball rolling, before Scott Kashket doubled the lead. Jason Williams halved the deficit going into half-time but second half goals from Sandro Semedo and Sam Ling saw the O’s see off the Shrimpers.
The game was only six minutes old when Orient went in front as a back pass from Jordan Williams was missed by goalkeeper Josh Bexon and it trickled into the net.
Orient built on that early lead when impressive skill saw Blair Turgott whip a delivery into the near post and Kashket was there to chest it past Bexon for number two.
That was how it remained for a considerable period of time as the O’s remained on the front foot. However, Shaun Brisley was dispossessed and a quick breakaway followed before Jason Williams had the simple task of tapping home from close range.
Nolan was replaced at the start of the second half by Freddy Moncur and while both sides created opportunities it was Orient who were to re-establish their two-goal cushion.
The ball arrived at the feet of Semedo 30 yards from goal and the youngsters took one touch before unleashing a fierce effort on goal, which proved too hot for Foxon to handle.
The O’s added gloss to the victory when Blair Turgott’s corner from the right found the unmarked Ling who headed home to seal a solid win for Orient.
