Leyton Orient U18’s were clinical in front of goal as they romped to a 4-0 win over Gillingham thanks to goals from Aron Pollock, Josh Koroma, Sam Alderson and Christian Owusu.
Orient started the brightest, but after a great close-range save by Sam Roach, the O’s took the lead. Koroma was fouled 25 yards from goal after weaving his way through defenders, setting up Sam Alderson to whip a fantastic ball into the box which Aron Pollock headed in. to make it two goals in consecutive games for the defender.
Gillingham’s best chance of the game was almost instant, a low ball across the box somehow evaded everyone before Rian McLean had the chance to clear.
A few minutes later after peppering the Gillingham box, Orient had a second. A simple long kick from Roach bounced favourable for Victor Adeboyejo to chase down who provided a simple chip across the box for a charging Koroma to head home and make it 2-0.
Orient continued to control the game with Adeboyejo, Pollock and Christian Owusu all having fantastic chances, before Roach produced another great one-on-one save.
Adeboyejo was unfortunately forced off through injury after landing awkwardly on his ankle, with Sam Dalby his replacement.
Before the half was out, Koroma tried an effort from 20 yards but it was expertly tipped over by the Gillingham keeper.
Orient should have been 3-0 up seconds into the second half, but a last-gasp Gillingham challenge saw Dalby brought down and a free-kick awarded. Alderson stepped up to take the set piece and he forced a fine stop from the Gills goalkeeper.
Alderson got another bite at the cherry from a free kick after Koroma was fouled and this time there was no denying the midfielder as he curled it superbly into the far left corner as Orient established a three-goal cushion.
Charley Barker begun to pick up where he left off last week by smothering the midfield and turning hard tackles into key passes. A final late strike by Owusu sealed the victory after picking the ball up from Koroma and netting with a powerful strike.
Coach Danny Webb was full of praise for his team and the growing confidence of goalkeeper Sam Roach.
“I was very happy with the performance but the biggest thing is two games, two clean sheets,” he said.
“It’s a big credit to the back four and Sam, now he is getting a clear run in the team you can see his getting better, the physicality has been there from the team and scoring from all areas has been great.”
