The Supporters’ Club is extremely proud to announce that committee member and O’s WW1 historian Steve Jenkins has arranged the first ever trip to Ypres and the surrounding area for Friday June, 16 to Sunday, June 18, 2017 inclusive.
Accommodation is for two nights in the well-equipped Novotel hotel in the centre of Ypres, which is in walking distance of the world-renowned Menin Gate as well as the impressive town square and Cloth Hall, where thehighly acclaimedFlanders Fields exhibition is on permanent display.
As regards the Menin Gate, we are pleased to confirm that the Leyton Orient buglers will be participating in the ‘Last Post Ceremony’ on the evening of Saturday, June 17 – this is in recognition of the O’s major involvement in the Great War and is a major honour for both the Supporters’ Club and Leyton Orient FC. It is also quite possibly the first time representatives of a football club will have taken part in this iconic and very moving event.
Other sites of historical interest pertaining to the Great War will also be visited during the weekend, including Passchendeale and Tyne Cot.
Travelling to Belgium in two coaches supplied by Anderson Travel and crossing the Channel via ferry – please note that there are only 98 places available, so should you wish to join up for this very special event please contact Steve at the earliest opportunity, either via email [email protected] or phone 07971 146502. Alternatively look to meet him in the Supporters’ Club as he will be pleased to discuss the trip with you.
