U18 REPORT: Exeter City 0-1 Leyton Orient

The O’s under-18s maintained their 100 per cent record in Merit League 1 with a slender 1-0 victory over Exeter City, and while disappointed with the performance, coach Danny Webb was pleased with the maturity from his side.

Dan Happe’s overhead kick in the second period was enough to secure the victory, and they remain undefeated, while they are also yet to concede a goal in their first four Merit League 1 fixtures.

Chances in the first period for the O’s were restricted to efforts from distance, while Orient goalkeeper Sam Roach remained untroubled throughout, despite the hosts having plenty of possession.

However the O’s took the lead when a corner in from the right found its way to Happe in the box and his spectacular overhead kick found the back of the net.

On the win, Webb said: “It was probably our poorest performance from us over the last four games.

“We showed great maturity and professionalism to achieve an ugly 1-0 win against a decent side and we are still yet to concede a goal in the league, having scored 10 so the lads deserve a lot of credit for the start, and hopefully there is more to come.”

A video of Dan Happe’s spectacular strike is below, and The under-18s are back in action when they host Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
