The O’s got their 2015-16 League Two camapign off to a fine start, and come the end of the August were still unbeaten.
A 2-0 opening-day victory over Barnet got the ball rolling for Orient under Ian Hendon, with strikers Jay Simpson and Paul McCallum both netting and already laying foundations for what looked like a sparkling partnership.
MK Dons lied in wait in the Capital One Cup and the O’s almost looked like pulling off a win over the Championship until two late goals saw the Dons pick up the victory.
However, that didn’t deter Orient and they bounced back with a 3-1 win at local rivals Dagenham & Redbridge, before returning to the Matchroom Stadium and seeing off Teddy Sheringham’s Stevenage with three second half goals, with Simpson netting along with Blair Turgott’s fine strike and Ollie Palmer.
The unbeaten league run continued at Newport County as Dean Cox’s second half strike sealed a 3-2 win, after McCallum and Simpson once again found the net and the O’s ended the month with a 2-0 home win over Bristol Rovers, thanks to Lloyd James’ penalty and another for Simpson to take his tally to four from five games.
The O’s form didn’t go unnoticed as both Head Coach Ian Hendon and Dean Cox picked up the manager and player of the month awards respectively.
