Orient defender Tom Parkes knows fully well what confidence and momentum can do to a side on the back of one promotion, but he hopes to get off to a winning start with his new club.
Parkes joined the O’s from Bristol Rovers in the summer having picked up back-to-back promotions with the Gas and the defender knows tomorrow’s opponents Cheltenham will be full of confidence.
However, after settling in well in E10, the 24-year-old is keen to enjoy the best possible start with the O’s.
“They have just been promoted from the Conference so there will be a buzz around the changing room and the stadium so they will want to try and get off to a flying start just like us but we have just got to go there and focus on getting the three points ourselves,” Parkes told leytonorient.com.
“At Bristol Rovers last year we had the confidence and momentum to go on and achieve back-to-back promotions so you know what can happen potentially, but hopefully we can show what we are about tomorrow and come away with the three points.”
Parkes has had a full pre-season with the O’s and admits that has helped him acclimatise to his new surroundings.
“It always takes a bit of time to get used to your new surroundings but I feel I have settled in well and all the new players have gelled as a team and I think over the pre-season games that has been in evidence,” he added.
“I was in from day one of pre-season so that has helped and after a few days of getting to know everyone I feel at home and settled in.
“I have had a few tough pre-seasons, particularly when I was at Bristol Rovers, and this one has certainly been one of the toughest, but it is work in the bank now and hopefully we can reap the rewards, starting from tomorrow.”
