The young O’s extended their winning streak to nine games after a 3-1 win at Milton Keynes Dons with goals from Ruel Sotiriou, Sam Dalby and Rian McLean.
Manager Richard Thomas made a few changes to the starting line-up, with Henry Ochieng unavailable as he travelled to Barnet with the first team. McLean took his place in holding midfield with Andrew Tayaca coming into a back three, while leading goalscorer Tristan Abrahams missed out through suspension.
Within the first 10 minutes of the game Dalby forced a good save from the Dons goalkeeper Nathan Pickworth after initially linking up well with Steven Alzate, before Josh Koroma went on a brilliant solo run, but saw the keeper equal to the effort.
The O’s had a vast amount of possession throughout the opening period and finally got the breakthrough on 37 minutes. They won a throw in just over half way which was taken by Tayaca. Sotiriou collected the header on from Dalby, who drove into the box and calmly slotted the ball in the bottom corner for his first goal of the season.
Richard Thomas’ side started the second half strongly with chances coming early on. Dalby had a header saved that seemed destin for the net, but Pickworth was able to keep the effort out as the keeper again kept his side in the game. Koroma then went agonisingly close seconds later after an intelligent turn to set up a shot, but Pickworth made a great reaction save once more.
After plenty of possession and chances the O’s doubled their lead with 20 minutes to play. The move started with great vision from Rian McLean who found Tayaca just outside the box. He played the ball to Alzate who found space to cross and Dalby (pictured) rose above the defender and headed the ball into the bottom corner.
MK Dons pulled a goal back with under 10 minutes to go when Sam Nombe tried his luck from long range and beat Arthur Janata with the ball clipping the underside of the bar on its way into the net.
With only minutes of stoppage time left McLean sealed the win for the O’s with a spectacular goal from just inside the box. The midfielder played a one-two with Sotiriou, before taking on the shot first time and side footed it in the top left corner.
Next up for the undefeated O’s is a trip to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, with a 10.30am kick off.
