The O’s lost out by the odd goal in five in this afternoon’s Development match played at Hitchin Town’s Top Field against Luton Town.
Orient sent a youthful squad for the fixture, including Josh Doherty fresh from his loan at Altrincham, plus goalkeeper Sam Sargeant and midfielder Freddy Moncur, along with a number of scholars.
The hosts included first-teamers in their squad, with the likes of Craig Mackail-Smith, Josh McQuoid and Jonathan Smith all featuring from the off for the Hatters.
Chances were few and far between in the opening exchanges, but it was the O’s who took the lead on 37 minutes when Victor Adeboyejo got on the end of a right-wing cross and fired it past Liam Gooch in the Luton goal.
That led to a spell of pressure for the O’s with both Michael Clark and Josh Koroma going close to doubling the lead before the break.
Luton started the second half brightly, but it was Gooch who was called into action when he denied Moncur’s first-time effort.
However, the hosts did find an equaliser 10 minutes into the half when Smith played a neat one-two with Zane Banton before slotting home.
After creating a number of opportunities, it was Luton who took the lead when Tyreeq Bakinson fired a left-footed effort past Sargeant.
Just after the game entered the final 10 minutes, Orient pulled themselves level as some neat build-up play from Adeboyejo and Steven Alzate resulted in the latter slotting past Gooch.
The goals didn’t end there though as Luton made sure of the victory late on when substitute Freddie Hinds rounded Sargeant to give them victory on the day.
