The young O’s got back to winning ways on Saturday with a professional 2-0 victory at Peterborough United thanks to goals from Tristan Abrahams and Steven Alzate.

Richard Thomas was missing a number of players due to their involvement with the first team, and in turn started under-16 Charles Clayden following his equaliser against Southend last weekend.

Fellow under-16s Jaedon Phillips, Mason Hall, Bradley McClenghan, Ernold Haxhiu and Aaron Rowe made up the substitutes bench.

The O’s set up with a game plan of sitting back and absorbing pressure to catch Posh on the break, and the plan paid off after only 13 minutes.

The O’s retreived the ball deep inside their own half and caught the hosts on the break as Dan Happe’s pass found Tristan Abrahams whose first touch took him away from the defender, before firing a shot in off the post to bag his 20th goal of the season.

Thomas’s side then made it 2-0 soon after through a brilliant Steven Alzate strike. Abrahams did well to win the ball back in the final third having previously lost possession and played the ball to Alzate who was well positioned in the box before shifting the ball onto his right foot and placing it in the top corner.

Just before half time Charles Clayden had a great chance to make it 3-0 and to score his second goal in as many weeks. After a brilliant one-two with Ruel Sotiriou he broke away down the right and into the box but despite seeming certain to score his shot was well saved.

The O’s made a number of substitutions in the second half and in doing so were pressed heavily by Peterborough, but the O’s kept their shape defensively and were able to keep the Posh out.

Goalkeeper Arthur Janata was called upon in the second half and made a great save from Kasey Douglas, the first time he was put under any real pressure.

With the match in the closing stages Alzate showed his skill when he dribbled his way into the box, and with defenders falling over the midfielder he managed to get his shot away but lost his footing at the crucial moment and the keeper managed to keep the shot out.
