Supporters of the O’s are no doubt aware that the side of 1955-56 won the Third Division South Championship.
To commemorate this achievement the club, in conjunction with a number of supporters, has purchased a replica of the shield as presented to the Championship winners.
A number of Orient legends were part of that team – Tommy Johnston, Stan Aldous (captain), Ronnie Heckman, Johnny Hartburn, Phil Woosnam and Phil McKnight to name a few.
McKnight joined the club from Chelsea in 1954 and made 39 appearances in the promotion-winning side and he made 80 appearances in our second division teams between 1956 and 1959.
The club are delighted that Phil McKnight and Sid Bishop will be present tomorrow afternoon for the unveiling in the Olympic Suite in front of invited guests.
After the unveiling, the shield will be permanently on display in the club reception area.
